The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, long-range, interceptor fighter aircraft operated by the US Navy. Its primary functions are to maintain air superiority and defend carrier battle groups against anti-ship missiles. The F-14 has movable wings that swing forward or back automatically according to speed requirements. The “Miss Molly” was among the F-14s stationed on the carrier USS Carl Vinson, and was named after Molly Snead, who nursed Vinson’s wife during a long illness.
